Five arrested for abducting Nepalese man, demanding ransom for his release
Five suspected members of a criminal ring alleged to have kidnapped a 23-year-old Nepalese national last month and kept him for weeks in an apartment in central Athens faced a prosecutor on Thursday on charges of abduction and causing grievous bodily harm.
The suspects – two Nepalis, a Bangladeshi, a Pakistani and an Indian national – were arrested after police raided a apartment in the neighborhood of Kypseli.
The five are alleged to have kidnapped the 23-year-old on March 30 and kept him in the Kypseli apartment, where they beat him.
They allegedly telephoned the man’s relatives in Nepal, demanding 14,000 euros for his safe release.
