Minister promises ‘momentous’ new electoral law
The government is planning a radical change to Greece’s electoral law, Interior Minister Panayiotis Kouroublis said on Wednesday.
Speaking on Alpha radio, Kouroublis said that coalition’s proposal would be “momentous” but did not give any details apart from saying that some of the large electoral districts, including the vast Athens B’ precinct, would be reduced in size.
Kouroublis said that the government is aiming to garner a qualified majority of at least 200 out of the 300 MPs in Parliament for its proposals so that the new system can be used in the next elections.
He did not specify when the government is hoping to have the new legislation ready.
