Security measures increase in Patra
Greek police and coastguard were taking extra security measures in Patra, western Greece, in the wake of Tuesday's deadly attacks in Brussels, according to sources.
Sources indicated there were increased patrols at the city's port as well as buildings hosting foreign consulates.
Increased passport controls were also taking place at the city port, while local authorities were working closely with European agencies, the sources said.
Coast guard officers were reportedly patrolling a 7-kilometer coastal area on a 24-hour basis.
On Wednesday, Citizens’ Protection Minister Nikos Toskas said that Greece was not a terrorist target for “historical reasons.”
“However, we have to be aware as a lot of people are passing through our country. This is why we cooperate with European agencies,” Toskas said speaking on Skai TV.
