Athens metro on strike over staff safety
Commuters in Athens were facing disruptions in public transport on Thursday as Athens metro services were halted after workers embarked on a 24-hour strike.
Metro staff was protesting security measures following a series of vandal attacks on central metro stations and the publication of a list featuring the names of 125 ticket inspectors on an anti-establishment website. An accompanying message encouraged those recognizing inspectors to attack them.
Services on the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP) were not affected.
