School trip funded by GD MEP canceled
A scheduled trip for Greek high school pupils in Xanthi to the European Parliament was called off on Monday after it was made known that it had been funded by a Golden Dawn MEP.
According to reports, the visit, financed by far-right lawmaker Eleftherios Synadinos, was canceled after parents and the local community expressed outrage.
Synadinos was recently expelled from a European Parliament debate chamber for racist comments.
The Education Ministry expressed its deep “concern and resentment” that the visit had been approved by the school’s teachers’ association.
“[The trip] was funded by an MEP who was recently expelled from [the European] Parliament for the first time in its history because of the expression of his neo-Nazi views.”
