Knockoffs seized from Athens warehouse, 3 arrested
Thousands of items of counterfeit clothing, shoes and accessories were found in a warehouse belonging to a moving company in the Votanikos area of Athens and were confiscated by the police’s financial crime squad on Thursday.
Police arrested a 45-year-old suspect after they found his truck parked outside the warehouse filled with contraband.
A 34-year-old man, identified as the importer, was also charged, along with another individual for allegedly supplying the items to the market.
In total, 19,088 items were found in the warehouse, including 2,918 pairs of sports shoes, 11,517 T-shirts, 1,845 women’s bags, 733 shirts, 531 pairs of pants, 1,444 pairs of underpants and 100 hats.
All the confiscated items were destroyed.
According to experts, the counterfeit goods represent 2,425,475 euros in lost sales for the brands whose products were copied.
