Eight nabbed over string of violent robberies
Eight members of a gang that committed a string of violent armed robberies at homes in western Attica have been arrested, police said on Friday.
They were nabbed early Friday in police operations launched in Aghia Varvara, Haidari and central Athens.
Seven men aged between 18 and 29 and one woman, 27, were apprehended, while two more are at large.
Police found screwdrivers, knives, walkie-talkies and other paraphernalia used by burglars in the possession of the suspects, who are believed to have broken into homes during the night and tied up their victims with phone cables, using or threatening violence.
The gang allegedly committed 16 armed robberies and looted roughly 300,000 euros.
