Donations for refugees go up in smoke on Greek island
Arson experts on Tuesday were investigating a large fire that destroyed a warehouse containing clothing and bedding for refugees and migrants on the southeastern Aegean island of Kastelorizo.
The blaze that broke out in the early hours of Tuesday destroyed hundreds of items of clothing, footwear and bedding that had been collected by municipal authorities in donations meant to help the thousands of refugees and migrants landing on the shores of Greece’s islands from Turkey.
Investigators are trying to ascertain whether the blaze was caused by a short circuit or was the result of arson, local media reported.
