Tsipras urges farmers to consider fiscal constraints
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday urged Greek farmers, who have for the past month been protesting planned pension reforms, to take into consideration the fiscal constraints on government policy.
“Any policy to overhaul the country’s production base must take your proposals into account, Tsipras said after talks with representatives of protesting farmers.
“At the same time, however, your proposals must take into account the problems facing the country; the fiscal conditions in which we are forced to operate,” he said.
Only one of the four major protesting farmers’ groups agreed to attend Monday’s talks.
