New Democracy congress to take place in April
The New Democracy party congress will take place between April 22 and 24 at the former Olympic Hockey Center in Elliniko, southern Athens, opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Friday.
The congress is expected to approve changes to the conservative rulebook in a bid to overhaul the party’s organizational structure, boost transparency and cut waste.
“New Democracy is making a new start to transform itself into a modern, inclusive, European political party,” Mitsotakis said while calling upon ND’s 400,000 members to take part in an online consultation to update the party charter.
Among the ideas to be discussed during the three-day congress is prohibiting party officials from holding state jobs, introducing quotas for women on party bodies and tickets, and holding online debates on key policies.
The event will be organized by former minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis.
