Thessaloniki Mayor Boutaris to go on ‘until 100’
Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris has denied rumors that he will resign before the end of his second term in office.
“Given that I decided at my age to become mayor and since I have come to realize very deeply what possibilities the position offers, I will be mayor until I reach 100,” the 73-year-old winemaker told Praktoreio FM.
“If I reach 100 and can see out another three terms, I will be mayor until I am 100.”
Boutaris, who stood as an independent, was first elected in 2010 and then re-elected in 2014.
During the interview, Boutaris also said that the northern port city will have a crematorium before the end of the year.
