Athens hospital chief denies patient died due to lack of ICU beds
The director of Sotiria Hospital in Athens has denied that a 55-year-old woman died at the facility due to a lack of beds in its intensive care unit (ICU).
The woman’s death was highlighted last week by the Athens Medical Association (ISA) as a consequence of the shortages at ICUs.
Sotiria director Mina Gaga told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency that a 49-year-old patient did die after receiving treatment at the hospital but that this was not linked to shortages in its ICU.
ISA said last week that around 60 intensive care units in Attica are closed because of a lack of staff.
