Sellers at farmers’ markets go on strike
Consumers are advised that there will be a limited amount of produce available at open-air farmer’s markets Wednesday through Friday as produce sellers have decided to back famers protesting the government’s planned social security and tax reforms by staging road blockades and rallies.
Existing produce, the head of their union, Pantelis Moschos, said will be distributed at scheduled markets on Wednesday and Thursday but no fresh collections will take place, meaning limited supply until the end of the week.
Meanwhile, herb and flower growers have also decided to drive their trucks to the Afidnes toll station north of Athens on Thursday, where they will block the passage of traffic from noon to 2 p.m.
