Mitsotakis victory a boon for Independent Greeks, MP says
The election of Kyriakos Mitsotakis as New Democracy chief will prompt several of his deputies to move to Independent Greeks, an MP of SYRIZA’s right-wing coalition partner has said.
“Mitsotakis’s unfettered liberalism will create problems within the party and I believe that many New Democracy deputies should perhaps consider moving to Independent Greeks (ANEL),” Dimitris Kammenos said in a radio interview Monday. He described ANEL as a "right-wing, patriotic party."
Kammenos said ND’s position on pension reform will see the first signs of tension inside the conservative opposition.
On Monday, ex ministers Costis Hatzidakis and Adonis Georgiadis were appointed New Democracy vice presidents.
