Postmortem fails to determine cause of girl’s surgery death
A coroner’s investigation into the death on Tuesday of a 4-year-old girl following a routine surgery at the Venizelos Hospital in Iraklio, Crete, had failed to reveal the cause of the tragedy by Wednesday, when the child was buried in Neapoli, Lasithi.
The results of toxicology and tissue tests, which are expected in around two weeks’ time, are likely to shed some light on the cause of the girl’s death.
The child was admitted to hospital for a procedure to treat swollen adenoids, but complications arose during the operation.
Her parents have taken legal action and are demanding that an investigation determine the reason why a routine operation took a fatal turn.
