Fugitive tied to prison hit arrested
A 34-year-old Albanian national who had been on the run since March 2013, when he is alleged to have participated in an armed attack on Trikala’s main prison, faced a prosecutor on Thursday on a string of charges following his arrest on Wednesday night in the city of Volos.
Police closed in on the suspect after receiving information in recent days that he was in the region. He was arrested in a seaside cafe in Volos at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
He faces a series of charges including attempted murder and weapons possession in connection with the raid which led to the serious injury of two prison guards and to the escape of 12 Albanian inmates.
