More expensive Athens public transport tickets to be valid for longer

The duration that a ticket for the Athens metro, ISAP electric railway, buses, trolley buses and tram is valid for will be increased to 90 minutes on January 1 as the cost of a regular full-price ticket is hiked from its current 1.20 euros to 1.40.

Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis on Monday said that tickets will be valid for longer than they are now to facilitate the journeys of commuters using more than one mode of transport.

He also stressed that the price hike was decided in order to offset losses from the increase in value-added tax on transport fares from 13 percent to 23 percent.
