Would-be robber used wheelchair to hide assault rifle in bank holdup
A would-be robber who entered a bank branch in Ilioupoli, southeastern Athens, on Friday in a wheelchair had concealed a Kalashnikov assault rifle under a blanket which he brandished at bank clerks when he reached the front of the line.
The man used the weapon to threaten staff, demanding that they empty the bank's safe. However, one of the employees pressed a hidden button alerting police, prompting the suspect to flee empty-handed. He remained at large on Friday afternoon.
Noone was injured in the holdup.
