Mother, son accused of online loan scam

Mother, son accused of online loan scam

The Greek Police said on Wednesday that officers of the force’s cyber crimes unit traced a 68-year-old woman and her 47-year-old son who are alleged to have conned several victims by touting low interest bank loans to unsuspecting customers over the Internet.

According to police, the mother-and-son team demanded significant sums for the administrative work that they would ostensibly have to do to secure the loans for their victims.

Police started investigating the scam following a complaint lodged by a 59-year-old man who claimed to have been swindled by the pair who appear to have acted with an accomplice, a 47-year-old man whom police are seeking abroad.

The 59-year-old claimed to have been enticed by the offer of a 5,000-euro loan with favorable repayment terms due to his difficult financial situation and paid a 350-euro fee before realizing he had been conned.
