Bootleggers caught, 4,500 bottles seized
Police said Monday that they have arrested five people in recent raids aimed at preventing the sale of adulterated alcohol.
Officers from the police and customs authority seized some 4,500 bottles of alcohol and almost 1,000 liters of alcohol in a big vat from warehouses.
Authorities said that they also recovered labels and labeling machines that were part of the effort to pass off the bottles as genuine products imported from abroad.
Officers have not yet established how much the state missed out on in terms of duties and taxes as a result of the illegal activity.
