Thirteen arrested during clashes in central Athens
Thirteen people – including six minors – have been arrested out of the 35 detained by Greek riot police late Sunday during clashes in the central Athens Exarchia district on the seventh anniversary of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos’s killing by police.
Sunday’s violence erupted at the end of a peaceful march through Athens. Self-styled anarchists threw scores of petrol bombs, bricks and broken marble at police in riot gear who responded with tear gas and stun grenades.
Police said the suspects would be charged later Monday with offenses ranging from use of explosives to arson and breach of the peace.
