Parliament staff indicted for fraud
Fifteen parliamentary employees secured their positions with forged qualifications, according to a probe which began several years ago and was completed earlier this year, sources close to Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis revealed on Wednesday.
According to those sources, the 15 employees have been indicted on charges of using forged qualifications. The judiciary is also expected to probe two more cases relating to House employees on short-term contracts who were hired along with another 41 staff on Wednesday.
One of the two is alleged to have used forged qualifications to secure a job while the second was allegedly working in another post in the civil service and had pocketed overtime wages for the Parliament job since 2008 despite never turning up.
