Jobless Greek fare-dodgers to have fines rescinded

Any unemployed Greeks who were given a fine for fare dodging between July 2, 2010 and July 2 this year can have the penalty rescinded if they prove that they they did not have a job at the time of the offense.

Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis has instructed the Organization of Urban Transport (OASA) to stop the process of collecting fines from anyone caught by ticket inspectors without a valid fare during the period in question as long as they are able to produce official documents showing that they were unemployed at the time.
