Cuban suspected of Havana museum heist arrested in Greece
Police in Greece on Wednesday said they had arrested a 36-year-old Cuban suspected of masterminding a massive art heist at the Havana National Museum of Fine Arts.
A police statement said the man was arrested on Monday in Koropi, a rural area near Athens, in the home of a 40-year-old Greek.
"Cuban authorities had issued an international warrant against him, on suspicion of being the main perpetrator of the robbery and misappropriation of 71 works of art," the police said.
The heist had been confirmed by the museum in February 2014.
At the time, reports had valued the works stolen at over $1 million (940,000 euros). Several of them later surfaced for sale in Miami a few days later.
