Shortage in Greek public schools of German teachers
Pupils at around 1,100 state schools in Greece are not learning German because of a lack of teachers, unionists claimed on Friday.
The union representing German language teachers said that there is a shortage of some 400 teachers, with nearly 300 of those missing from primary schools.
German is available as a second foreign language, after English, from the fourth grade of primary school.
The union said that the government has launched a process for hiring just five substitute teachers for state high schools.
