Stamati says she still can’t make bail
The legal council of Viki Stamati, the jailed wife of money-laundering felon and ex-minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, on Friday filed a request for bail to be waived for his client.
Stamati’s prison sentence was commuted to house arrest on October 14 and the 52-year-old was given two weeks to post 50,000 euros in bail as a condition of her release, an extension granted in response to the argument that capital controls prevented her from getting the cash together.
Friday’s petition claimed that Stamati still cannot post bail and challenged the previous ruling, saying the restrictions on bank transactions remain.
