Prosecutors charge ex-general secretary with felony
The former head of public revenues, Katerina Savvaidou, is to face felony charges, anti-corruption prosecutors decided on Thursday.
The two judicial officials, Ioannis Dragatsis and Angeliki Triantafyllou, deemed that the breach of faith charges against Savvaidou for her decision to ask for a 78-million-euro fine on an IT company from northern Greece to be reviewed should be treated as a felony rather than a misdemeanor.
Savvaidou denies any wrongdoing and insists the request for a review would not have led to the state suffering any damages.
Nevertheless, the cabinet decided last week to fire her after she was charged in a second case involving the extension of a deadline for TV stations to pay an advertising levy. Savvaidou has not been replaced yet.
