Abandoned three-story building collapses in Athens due to flooding
Heavy rain on Thursday caused a three-story building constructed illegally on the banks of a stream in Kamatero, northwest of Athens, and evacuated last year to collapse, the state-run AMNA news agency reported.
The Attica Regional Authority sent clean-up crews to the location to remove debris from the building that is blocking the stream over concerns that it could cause widespread flooding as downpours persist.
The wet front that is sweeping through Greece has also caused flooding in the western port city of Patra, in the prefecture of Ilia in the Peloponnese, and other parts of the country.
