ND leadership challenger Tzitzikostas to present vision for party
Central Macedonia Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas was to present his vision for the structure and direction of New Democracy on Monday evening ahead of a contest for the leadership of the conservative party.
Tzitzikostas, 37, is to deliver his speech at Gazi Hall at 6 p.m. It will be his first public presentation of his positions on how New Democracy should evolve following its defeat to leftist SYRIZA in the last two general elections.
Last week the four candidates vying for ND’s leadership appeared to have reached a truce after a bout of infighting raised doubts about whether the vote, whose first round is due on November 22, would even take place.
Current leader Evangelos Meimarakis, ex-minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Tziztikostas and former minister Adonis Georgiadis met in Parliament on Wednesday after efforts by the latter to ease the rising tension within the party.
