Nearly one-third of pupils admit to bullying

Under one-third of school students have used violence against a fellow pupil, while two in three have witnessed bullying, a recent survey by the Education Ministry has found.

The study found that 29 percent of respondents admitted to using violence either rarely or frequently against fellow students, while 66 percent said they have never resorted to bullying.

Two in three students, or 65 percent, admitted they have seen fellow students being bullied and 28 percent said they have never witnessed such an incident.

Nevertheless, 70 percent responded that they feel “safe” at their school, compared to just 5.5 percent who said they do not.

The study surveyed 3,682 elementary school students and 31,602 middle and high schoolers by anonymous electronic questionnaire.
