Embezzlement trial of ex-treasurer of Gavdos starts next week
The embezzlement trial of the former treasurer at the municipality on the tiny island of Gavdos, off Crete, is to begin next Friday in Hania, it was decided on Friday.
The treasurer is accused of stealing 530,000 euros in municipal funds.
The shortfall was discovered after the then mayor Stratis Lambrakis ordered an investigation in 2011.
The probe was carried out by inspectors from the Finance Ministry.
