Woman caught in Athens with 0.5 kg cocaine in stomach

A 38-year-old Brazilian national was to face an Athens prosecutor late on Wednesday after police stopped her at Athens International Airport and determined that she had swallowed just under half a kilogram of cocaine.

The woman arrived at Athens Airport on Sunday on a flight from Sao Paolo via Abu Dhabi.

According to Attica Narcotics Squad officers who stopped her at the airport, the 38-year-old had been carrying 37 small packages of the drug weighing a total of 495 grams.

She is believed to be a member of a racket smuggling cocaine from Latin America to several European countries.
