Georgiadis suspends campaign tour, calls meeting of ND candidates
One day after New Democracy conservatives were marred by a raw over the procedure to be followed in the upcoming leadership contest, ex minister Adonis Georgiadis Wednesday called a meeting of all four contenders to settle all outstanding issues.
Georgiadis, who has been touring the country in a white camper van, said he had cancelled a rally scheduled for Wednesday at the northern city of Drama to return to Athens.
“We must resolve all procedural issues today and put an end to this shameful spectacle,” said Georgiadis, a member of ND’s right-wing faction.
On Wednesday, current leader and fellow contender Evangelos Meimarakis reportedly interrupted a meeting of New Democracy’s electoral committee and launched a fierce attack on secretary Andreas Papamimikos and general manager Costas Tsimaras over suspicions about the process being followed to choose a company to run the November 22 leadership ballot.
Ex-ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Central Macedonia Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas are also running for the post.
