Brass bust of famed WWII singer stolen outside Volos town hall
Theives have stolen a brass bust of famed Greek singer Sofia Vembo has been stolen from in front of Volos town hall.
The bust had been unveiled 10 years ago to honor Vembo, who grew up in Volos after moving to the city with her family from Eastern Thrace.
Vembo shot to fame in Greece during the Second World War on account of singing patriotic songs, which earned her the nickname of “Songstress of Victory.” As a result, she was given the honorary rank of major in the Greek army.
