Island businesses take action over VAT hike
A businessman on Myconos on Thursday lodged an appeal to the Council of State, the country’s highest administrative court, calling for a new law that revokes a value-added tax discount hitherto enjoyed by certain Greek islands to be annulled as “unconstitutional and illegal.”
The appeal by the unnamed entrepreneur came a day after the municipal council of Skiathos decided to appeal to the same court against the revoked discount, which obliges a handful of popular Greek islands to pay the standard VAT rates of 6, 13 and 23 percent that apply in the rest of the country.
