Hospital rules out cholera after Dutch tourist is checked
Preliminary tests conducted on Friday on a 79-year-old Dutch tourist who displayed symptoms similar to cholera came out negative, officials at Athens’s Hygeia Hospital confirmed.
The Dutchman was on holiday on the eastern Aegean island of Kos when he displayed signs of acute gastroenteritis, which are similar to those of the deadly and highly contagious disease.
A team from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control was dispatched to Kos amid fears that if he were suffering from cholera, others on the island may also be sick.
