Meimarakis bides time as Georgiadis joins ND leadership race
As the interim leader of conservative New Democracy, Evangelos Meimarakis, avoided revealing his intentions regarding an upcoming election for the party’s leadership, outspoken MP Adonis Georgiadis became the latest challenger to throw his hat into the ring.
“I put myself and my political career before the judgment of cadres, voters and friends of New Democracy,” Georgiadis wrote on his Twitter account. Georgiadis is up against challengers Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the governor of for Central Macedonia, and former minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Meimarakis, for his part, rebuffed criticism over his delay in determining his intentions, saying “the decision is mine.”
