Army joins repair efforts on weather-battered Skopelos
The Greek armed forces have joined efforts to repair the widespread damage wreaked to Skopelos, which is in the Sporades group of islands, following bad weather earlier this week.
The army has transferred earth moving machines to the island where heavy rain caused extensive damage to roads and other infrastructure while sweeping dozens of cars into the sea.
There were no reports of any serious injuries but dozens of homes and businesses suffered damages. Schools remained closed on the island on Friday.
Earlier this week, authorities on the island, which is a popular tourist destination, declared Skopelos to be in a state of emergency.
