The refugees were spotted on Thursday by a fisherman who briefed the Coast Guard of Alonissos which dispatched officers to the scene.
On Friday afternoon, the refugees were to board a ferry for the port of Volos where they are to be registered and hosted in a temporary reception center while their fate is decided.
Greece has become the main entry point for thousands of refugees and migrants fleeing war or seeking a better future in Europe. Islands of the eastern Aegean such as Lesvos and Kos have borne the brunt of the influx.
