Doctor arrested over illegal weapons in Iraklio
A 41-year-old Romanian gynecologist employed at a hospital in the Cretan port of Iraklio was arrested on Tuesday after a search of his home turned up an arsenal of illegally held weapons.
Officers confiscated two Kalashnikov assault rifles, two pistols, three swords, an extendable metal truncheon, thousands of rounds of ammunition as well as a bulletproof vest, handcuffs and two balaclavas.
According to sources, the suspect told police he was a collector.
He was to face an Iraklio prosecutor on Tuesday.
