Search continues for Syrian man in Axios River
The search for a 22-year-old Syrian man who went missing on Monday after diving into Axios River on Greece’s northern border, resumed in the early hours of Tuesday, the state-run Athens-Macedonian News Agency reported.
The man was reportedly traveling through Greece via Turkey from war-torn Syria with a group of relatives when he dove into the river on Monday in a bid to cross into the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), from where the group was hoping to make it into Central Europe and further west.
Members of his group who called authorities for help said the 22-year-old was swept up in the river’s strong current.
