Decision on convicted N17 terror group chief this week
Authorities are expected to decide this week whether Alexandros Giotopoulos, the 70-year-old convicted leader of the November 17 terrorist organization, currently serving 17 consecutive life sentences, should be transferred back to Korydallos Prison in Piraeus, near Athens.
Giotopoulos, who was eight months ago moved to Domokos jail in central Greece for security reasons, has been on hunger strike since August 15 demanding his return to the capital. He claims he has suffered at least 10 violent attacks inside the Domokos facility over the period of his incarceration there.
Reports last week said that the US State Department has removed November 17 from Washington’s list of terrorist organizations.
