EU’s Dombrovskis expects Greek progress regardless of government
Greece has undertaken a commitment to implement reforms regardless of the party in power, European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis has said in light of snap polls expected in September.
“Forthcoming elections are an internal affair of Greece,” Dombrovskis, who is in charge of the euro in the EU executive, said in an interview with Germany's Die Zeit published Wednesday.
“On the other hand, there is a new agreement between lenders and Greece – independent of who is in government,” he said.
Asked whether he expects Athens to have implemented reforms to the country's social security system by October, in line with the demands of the third memorandum, Dombrovskis said Greece will be under close monitoring by the institutions while the release of funds to the debt-hit country will depend on program progress.
