Crete police fear more violence after vendetta shooting
Police in Hania, Crete, on Monday were keeping a close watch over a 24-year-old man in a critical condition at a local hospital as a result of several gunshot wounds sustained earlier in the day following an assault believed to be prompted by a vendetta.
The 24-year-old was shot at least five times at close range, including in the head and neck, and had to undergo extensive surgery.
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning at a popular eatery in the old town of Hania in the presence of dozens of witnesses.
It is believed that the attack was prompted by a deadly altercation between the young men’s fathers, prompting concerns about more violence.
