Man nabbed in Ilia hotel on child porn charges
Officers of the Greek Police’s Cyber Crime Unit on Thursday were questioning a 21-year-old man on charges of possessing and distributing child pornography.
The 21-year-old was arrested at a hotel in Ilia in the Peloponnese as part of a broader investigation between the Greek force and international authorities code-named Pacifier.
Europol and US authorities traced websites with content involving children being sexually abused.
An analysis by Europol and the FBI yielded the details of users which were forwarded to the countries where they were located, including Greece.
Greek officers used the details to conduct a raid Wednesday on the Thessaloniki home of the 21-year-old, where they confiscated a computer hard drive and a laptop, which was said to hold a large number of videos and photos of young children being sexually exploited.
The man was not at his home at the time of the raid but was traced to a hotel in Ilia. He was to face a prosecutor on Thursday.
