N17 convict Xeros sets cell on fire

Convicted November 17 terrorist Christodoulos Xeros set his jail cell on fire Wednesday in protest at a decision by authorities at Nigrita Prison in northern Greece to prevent a planned visit by two of his brothers.

The siblings, Dimitris and Avgoustinos Xeros, arrived at the prison as scheduled for their weekly visit but guards told them the telephone they were to use to speak with their brother was not working.

The brothers asked to have a face-to-face meeting but their request was denied, according to local reports. After hearing the news, the convict is said to have started breaking things in his cell before igniting a fire that was quickly extinguished by guards.
