Two held in connection with Xylokastro fire
Police on Wednesday detained two men, aged 39 and 50, in connection with a large blaze that broke out near the town of Xylokastro, west of Athens, on Tuesday and was still smoldering on Wednesday evening after firefighters managed to bring it under control.
According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the two men are employees of the Xylokastro municipality.
They were to face a prosecutor in Corinth on charges of arson through negligence.
Nearly 100 firefighters were dispatched to tackle the large blaze, which prompted the evacuation of dozens of children from a nearby summer camp on Tuesday.
