Two face prosecutor over Iraklio killing
Two Bulgarian nationals, aged 17 and 21, faced a prosecutor in the Cretan port of Iraklio on Tuesday in connection with a vicious fatal assault on a 71-year-old man in the region of Moires last week.
The two men had been briefly detained for questioning following the assault and were arrested on Tuesday following further investigation by police.
According to the probe, the two men broke into the victim’s home last Thursday in a bid to burgle the property.
After spotting him, one of the pair stabbed him repeatedly with a knife in the throat, chest and stomach.
The 71-year-old was found dead in his home a few hours later.
Police also detained a 38-year-old Bulgarian woman, the mother of the younger suspect, for neglectful supervision of a minor.
