Finishing touches at Elaionas refugee camp
A temporary camp in Elaionas, near central Athens, to house refugees who are currently camping in Pedion tou Areos park is due to be ready by the end of the week, the government hopes.
Authorities are waiting for the supply of new air-conditioning units for the dozens of prefabricated structures that have been placed on the plot of land owned by the City of Athens.
While authorities wait for the cooling units to be delivered, they are making attempts to make the bare plot more livable by planting shrubs and installing canopies to provide shade for up to 600 people that the camp is designed to accommodate.
