Mayors appeal to minister to release structural funds
Greece’s Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE) on Monday wrote to Economy Minister Giorgos Stathakis to complain that municipal projects worth a total of 1.2 billion euros, for which European Union subsidies have been approved, are unable to proceed as the government has not signed them off.
In the letter, which is signed by KEDE president and Maroussi Mayor Giorgos Patoulis, local authority officials express concern that projects across the country for which tenders have already been issued could be left unfinished.
A total of 387 projects in 113 municipalities worth 600 million euros are currently on hold as the required funding has not been disbursed, according to sources.
